Friend of the Groom
Monologue by Mark Mobley
75 Minutes
A white, gay NY architect and a Japanese ballerina cook up a Miami green-card wedding, featuring two best men and a perfectly timed train. It triggers a roller coaster weekend of epic proportions told by a “Friend of the Groom.” This is a riotous tale of Miami nightlife — and a meditation on love lost and found among family and friends — told by a writer the Washington Post calls “breezily irreverent.”
“By turns dramatic, poetic and earthy … a symphonic sweep touching numerous emotional bases, as well as the funny bone, along the way” — City Magazine, Norfolk, Va.

The event is so great. I’d love to have some of the people sit around with “story starters” and colloborate on new stories. And become a more creative SNL. My sinister plan…..
Great idea! We are looking for themes to choose for our Upcoming Fall and Winter events. If we like the one you choose we will donate the door cash to a “story telling” organization of your choice!
Hey, have you guys seen the blog for a semi-local zine called Mildred Peirce? I wonder if you’d be interested in adding it to your blog roll? Check it out.
I have become obsessed in finding out all I can about your events. Sadly they conflict with something called Assembly that Pep (Jen Tidwell and Sian Richards) hosts over at the bridge.
But I might come check out the zombie puppet show on Sunday. Cheers!
Thanks Leeyanne!
We do know about Mildred Pierce– we’re friends with John, actually. We’ll add it.
Our events actually don’t always conflict with Assembly. We are on teen Sundays, which are sometimes second (like this month and last) and sometimes third (like April and May), as you can see above.
We hope to see you at one of the shows then!
-Lauren
Thank you for the mention! We are lucky to be invited to WRIR’s Party for the rest of us and will be telling Birthday Stories with Richmond’s cream of the crop tellers. Hope to see you there!
