Shh! Announcing…Secretly Y’all

Hi there.

We are starting a new storytelling event in Charlottesville. It’s called “Secretly Y’all,” wherein people are invited to come and tell stories around a theme. The first one will take place on Sunday November 15, at 7:00 PM at Random Row Books, and the theme is “Touched by a Crazy.”

This is where you come in. We are looking for people with stories about a time in your life when the drama took over, and you did ridiculous things, OR when you had a run in with someone else who was doing something ridiculous. Crazy exes, crazy parents, crazy bad or good luck, crazy coincidence, crazy love…it’s all fair game.

Keep in mind, we’re not trying to make fun of mental illness, just trying to own the times in our life when the crazy has come knocking and we’ve answered the door. There will be tales of egos gone wild, identities stolen, and very bad decisions. We’re hoping for a raucous night of stories, supplemented by some yummy homemade refreshments (cookies and pumpkin ale).

A Teensy Yet Important Rule
Secretly Y’all is for true stories. We believe there is more than enough strange beauty in real life to be at least as entertaining as fiction. We’re not going to hire a private dick to verify names dates and places, but please no fiction stories. The lies we tell ourselves are part of our “true stories” but stick to what really happened, not what you wish had. (Or what you’ve written for creative writing class.) Also, we love funny people but no standup routines please. Actual stories of actual events. Beginning, middle, end.
